Enriched management: education improves casino hiring pools.

As the proliferation of casinos and casino-like enterprises continues to flourish in more U.S. states, a multitude of additional job positions will be created. These will not only be defined as more floor staff and entry-level game service personnel, but an increased need for professional management and executive-level operational teams.

The response to this from the education sector will also follow suit. An ever-increasing amount of colleges nationwide are adding casino management programs and hospitality courses to their curriculums to satisfy this growing demand.

Here we have a win-win situation for all parties; the education institution will benefit from attracting top-quality individuals from within the casino industry to fill the new faculty positions; those that benefit from the newly offered casino management programs will begin to fill the rank-and-file entry-level management jobs at the established casino operations; graduates of these programs can expect a higher salary and more growth potential than they would have otherwise.

The hiring pool for casino human resource departments will continue to improve as more formally-educated personnel enter the workforce. This also offers opportunities for casinos that have financial aid programs or partial tuition coverage for employees that want to enrich their credentials and train for better jobs within the industry.

Currently, common perceptions of working in a casino do not accurately depict reality, being more of a stereotype portrayed by Hollywood. I believe that in large part this keeps a lot of good talent out of this otherwise thriving, lucrative and economy-boosting industry. Successfully run casinos are managed according to the best business practices and are exemplary when it comes to equal opportunity employment and fair working conditions. Within the hospitality sector, casinos actually offer their employees more flexible working hours, more time off, better pay and benefits and more room for advancement.

Already paradigms are changing - management level positions are coveted and sought after and finding qualified candidates is becoming easier as the number of perspective applicants begins to increase. Landing a good job at a reputable casino can really boost a resume as well as offer some of the best real-world experience, both personally and professionally.
